Attributes: Ipe is a dense and durable wood that is pest resistant and nearly impenetrable by moisture and rot. It is an ideal choice for porch decking, outdoor stair treads, and park benches. Ipe requires no sealers or treatments and when left untreated it weathers to a silver patina; if treated will preserve the material’s broad color spectrum of rich russets and reddish browns.
Notes: Our Reclaimed Ipe is re-purposed from the massive structural beams used in the Far Rockaway (New York City) Boardwalk when it was dismantled. Although harvesting newly sawn Ipe is heavily discouraged—due to the depletion of the rainforest—being reclaimed, our Ipe offers an opportunity to take advantage of its unique properties and honor the history of this famous wood. We can custom mill Ipe to any profile, but always want to maximize the yield of this historic material.
