Select Harvest Vintage Red Oak

Surface: Wood Flooring

Type: Select Harvest Vintage Wood Flooring

Species: Oak

Treatment: New Face, Contour Sanded, Wire Brushed, Original Saw Kerf Marks, Pre-Finished, Cerused, Heat Treated

Dimensions: 3/4" x 4 - 10" x 4 - 10'

It shares many of the attributes with its paler brother, but has a slightly pink hue, more open grain structure and distinctive red knots. Red Oak accepts stain well and because of its slightly pink cast is far superior to white oak when a bleached or pickled look is desired. Additionally, when Red Oak is quartersawn, it exhibits significantly less dramatic figuring, for those seeking a subtler look.

Notes: The market for custom milled Red Oak is not as strong as that for White Oak. Conversely, there is significantly more naturally growing red oak timber. When considering the environmental impact of your choice, Red Oak makes sense and is often more economical as well. Further, we always advise using the full millrun of the Red Oak timber to minimize any waste and maximize the character of the final floor.
